So I finally got around to seeing the much celebrated ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ video.
Despite being played (apparently) numerous times on every music channel, news channel, radio station and the rest, I had managed to successfully live in a little cave and not hear/see this song at all.
First impressions – what is all the fuss about?
Honestly, there have been plenty of spicier ‘item’ numbers, and many of them by the woman Katrina herself. Remember ‘zara touch me’ from Race? Or Urmila’s Chamma Chamma? Or Malaika’s Chaiyya Chaiyya on a train?
Which brings me to the next point – the comparison with Munni Badnaam Hui from Dabang. Two women wearing the typical Indian skirt. While one is talking about massaging herself with a pain reliever for a guy (?!) Sheila’s lyrics make a lot more sense.
She’s celebrating herself and telling the guys that she’s way too hot for any of them to handle and hence, they can buzz off. Was there another item number after Helen that bought up this point? It is all about the guy, the sex or the woman saying come and get me.
The two songs, hence, in my mind, cannot even be compared. What’s the fuss?
If you haven’t seen the video, here you go
